News & Notes

Dance, Dance, Dance

On Friday, 18 March, the last day of the first term of the year, the Grade 6 and 7 classes at John Wesley performed the dances they choreographed for the entire school.  We have some pretty talented dancers in our midst!

World Storytelling Day

John Wesley School was visited by the famous Ida Gartrell, storyteller extraordinaire.  She “wow-ed” us all with tales of dragons and warriors and princesses and monsters.  It was an amazing hour of magical delight and a celebration of World Storytelling Day, which takes place on 20 March each year.

Mini CRICKET

John Wesley sent a Grade Four MINI CRICKET team through to the KFC Mini Cricket Festival in Richards Bay on Saturday, 5 March.  Not only did the team have a great deal of fun, they met new friends, played as a team, received KFC hats, shirts and food, and they won their two matches.  Here they are sporting their medals and proudly displaying their certificates.  Well done, boys!!

Valentines Day

On Friday, 12 February, JWSE had a Valentines Civvies Day to help support a local school that has no library.  We have decided that this is our 2016 special project:  to help get good books into the hands of our neighbours and friends.  We raised over R600 toward library books and had fun at the same time.  Here are some pictures of our learners on Friday:

Grade R

Queen and King of HEARTS!  The PreSchool class crowned the best-dressed Valentines Day learners.

The grade One Class made fancy Valentines Day sun glasses!  Style on!

The Grade Three made “Owl Always Love You” Valentines Day Owls.
(THANK YOU, MISS DUGGAN!!!)

Some of the best dressed in the Intermediate Phase.

Thanks to all the Parents
and Family Members
who came to the AGM on 9 February!

For those of you who did not come, please be sure to request a copy of the minutes in your child’s homework book.  There was important information given at the meeting. Our school is built on the idea that we are all working together as a team:
Learners – School –  Family !  Together we can go far.

READING FUN DAY!who's-reading

Great excitement is building as the FOUNDATION PHASE classes get ready to host the annual READING FUN DAY!

This year, Reading Fun Day will happen on Saturday, 30 January for the PreSchool Class, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3.

Learners are asked to come together WITH the adult who generally monitors the homework and regularly signs the homework book.

The fun starts at 14:00 and will end at approximately 16:00.

There will be lucky draws, but the most special thing will be for the families of the learners to go into the classrooms and see how READING is taught and to learn small things they can do to give their children the edge in their education.
